Here are links to system utilities that I have found to be indispensable in maintaining Windows, and which I fully recommend to others. |
Startup Manager
Startup Manager by Brad Stowers enables & disables auto-start programs in the the startup folders, registry & WIN.INI file. There are other free utilities available that do the same thing, but this was one is my favorite. |
Places Bar Editor
PlacesBarEditor is a free utility for Windows ME, 2000 and XP that allows you to customize the "PlacesBar" that appears on the left side of the Open and Save dialogs. |
Easy Cleaner
EasyCleaner can clean the Registry, temp files, duplicate files, startup programs, invalid shortcuts, and more. Very simple to use. |
Reg Seeker
Reg Seeker is a free registry clean up tool and more. It can also display your startup entries, installed applications, and has a tweaks panel to optimize your OS, a file tool to search for duplicate files, bad shortcuts and more! |
Everest Home Edition
Everest is a system information tool. It can tell you all about what is inside your computer without you having to open the case. It identifies all the drivers and hardware. The free version is being discontinued so get it while you can. |
Context Edit
ContextEdit lets you control what shows on the right-click menu when clicking files or folders in Explorer. Very handy for removing things that you don't want and that might slow down the load time of the menu. |
WAssociate
WAssociate enables control over double or right clicking a file, context menus, associated commands, icons and descriptions in Windows Explorer. Similar to ContextEdit, but more powerful. |
