Put Switzerland on Your Desktop PDF Print E-mail

Most of my relatives live in Switzerland. One of my cousins works in a Farm Machinery shop and sends out a calendar to promote his business. I have a few of these calendars and they are full of beautiful pictures of Switzerland. I thought I would share a few of these with you, re-sized to fit different desktop resolutions.

A few years ago I had a chance to visit Switzerland and I can verify that the country is just as beautiful as the pictures show! However, it is much more crowded than Canada, so I was glad to return.

The pictures are available for download in three different resolutions:

  • 1280x1024: for those of you using 19" monitors, this will probably be the best choice.
  • 1024x768: this is a good choice for most 17" monitors, especially the flat panel LCD screens.
  • 800x600: this is good for 15" monitors, and some 17" monitors, especially if they are not flat panel LCD screens.

If you are using WindowsXP, you can use these pictures as follows:

  1. copy them to the c:\windows\web\wallpaper\ directory.
  2. Open the Control Panel from the Start menu.
  3. Open the Display icon by double-clicking on it.
  4. Choose the Desktop tab. Here you can select the Desktop picture.

If you are using Windows98, do the following:

  1. Unless you are using the Active Desktop, you will need to convert the pictures to BMP (bitmap) files. (IrfanView is a free program that can do this for you).
  2. Copy the BMP files to the c:\windows directory.
  3. Open the Control Panel from the Start menu.
  4. Open the Display icon by double-clicking on it.
  5. Choose the Background tab. Here you can select the Desktop picture.
